Keeping with their recent victory in the battle against the Al Shabaab, Puntland security forces have managed to take down 7 Al Shabaab members in the Puntland province. The Puntland security forces have managed to capture dozens of militants and their ringleaders who were responsible for at least 30 targeted assassinations against security forces, journalists, governors, and other senior officials.

One of the captured militants is a man identified as Feiasal Ahmed Gujis, a 31-year-old technician from Galkayo. Bashir joined Al-Shabaab in 2008, He had been trained in Elasha Biyaha areas on the outskirts of Mogadishu and participated in several battles in the south before returning to his hometown. Mudug Regional Police Commander Mumin Abdi Shire said Bashir was a well-known figure among the community and regularly visited public places to escape the radar of the security services. He has allegedly committed 10 confirmed assassinations including that of Abdulkadir Jama Nugal, a former Mudug regional prosecutor who was targeted near Al Aziz Mosque, and Abdi Ka’an, a senior Puntland intelligence official.

After police interrogations, Bashir and other 7 fellow militants were arraigned in Mudug and Ayn court that slapped them with death and jail sentences for various brutal and savage killings and blasts in northern Galkayo since 2008. This is yet another great victory against the terrorism scourge within the country, further weakening the Al Qaeda affiliated group.
