The Kenya Defence Forces in collaboration with the National Police Service foiled what would have been a deadly attack by Al Shabaab in Mandera County.
The pacification of the attack was advised by intelligence between the security agencies who then rescued at least 156 quarry workers at quarries in Fincharo and Shimbir Fatuma in Elwak Subcounty. Four workers were killed and three fatally injured in the incident that happened amidst the heavy rains in the area.
A cordon and a search operation has since been employed targeting the terrorists in surrounding areas as all quarries have been ordered to close indefinitely by the Regional Commissioner, North Eastern Region.
Security agencies confirm heightened security across the country as we approach the holy month of Ramadan.
