Nine Al Shabaab militants have been killed after a foiled attack that would have been a major strike in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Security forces working on an intelligence tip-off seized two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices that were also being used to ferry suicide bombers in what was expected to be a destructive attack.
One of the vehicles was seized at KM4 Airport after it failed to stop at a security checkpoint forcing the police to fire at the explosives fitted vehicle killing all occupants.
The second vehicle was intercepted less than a kilometer away at the Banadir Junction in Hodan district at a National Intelligence and Security Agency security checkpoint, Sei Piano area. The militants who were determined to detonate the explosives at the checkpoint were killed on the spot, leaving two security forces injured.
