The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Mogadishu that was recently claimed by the Al Qaeda allied Al Shabab. The attack on the Somalia capital killed at least six people including two children and injured many more.
The Secretary-General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, has offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the Government and people of Somalia on the tragic loss of lives and wished a quick recovery to the injured people.
He noted that such cowardly attacks targeting government buildings and civilians are attempts by the enemies of peace to undermine peace and stability in Somalia. The Secretary-General also restated the principled position of the OIC saying that it is against all forms of terrorism and extremism.
The cooperation says that acts of terror and extremism have emerged as a daunting threat not only to the Member States alone but also to international peace and security. According to the Secretary-General, there is a need for increased international partnership to counter the menace of terrorism.
